Fama is a tech startup mobile app for investing in YouTube channels.
Users can fund growing creators and earn part of the channel's revenue.
This funding aids creators in upgrading equipment, getting guidance, expanding teams, and more.
01
PROBLEM
Growing Youtubers face income instability, relying on brand deals, sponsorships, and views.
This limits their ability to hire, seek advice, upgrade equipment, or innovate, slowing their growth.
Industry insiders such as analysts or editors have the knowledge to help growing creators, but do not have a way of finding them.
02
RESEARCH & PLANNING
I worked with the founders to formulate and test a hypothesis via weekly user interviews and data analysis.
We interviewed YouTube professionals such as analysts and editors to understand their criteria for identifying good creators, their investment patterns, and their openness to investing via an app.
As a two-sided marketplace, we also interviewed creators about their challenges and potential funding solutions.
04
PERSONA
I used our research findings to create two detailed personas to guide our design strategy.
By targeting these personas, we aimed for a personalized, effective user experience.
06
FINDING SOLUTIONS
Once we finished our extensive research, we identified important issues and brainstormed solutions.
We employed user segmentation to customize solutions for personas and specific user groups.
These solutions then became features refined through iterative sketching.
08
LOW FIDELITY WIREFRAMES
I started with low-fidelity wireframes to visualize the app's layout and functionality.
This optimized the user flows and enhanced intuitive navigation.
10
RESULTS
The results have been truly impressive.
YouTubers have a reliable funding source to speed up their channel growth.
Both users and creators were very excited with all the improvements we did based on their feedback.
They were very excited with the final product.
63 creators have received funding through Fama.
Over 1,000 YouTube specialists have invested in creators.
05
COMPETITIVE ANALYSIS
To define Fama's unique value proposition, I analyzed key competitors: Spotter and Electrify.
Their limitations included not giving support to the creator and charging creators high revenue percentages.
Fama's solution is an app allowing open investment in creators while they receive the support they need.
07
INFORMATION ARCHITECTURE
I accentuated main features and processes of the app through the information architecture. The aim was to focus on having the possibility of investing easily and getting funding quickly.
09
TESTING AND FINAL PROTOTYPE
I developed an app prototype to test user flows and get feedback from users.
Multiple testing rounds resulted in multiple iterations and a viable solution.
The app is live on the App Store and Google Play Store, only accessible by invite.
03
Competitive analysis
From the interviews, I found that there is only one competitor: YT Jobs. I got many negative comments about this platform.
In order to analyse it in an easier way I created 2 tables. The first table was to analyse the feedback received.
The second table was to look at supply and demand on this platform.
YT Jobs data demonstrated that the number of people looking for a job is extremely higher than the job offers.
03
Analysis of results
Our research demonstrated that metrics such as view and subscriber growth, video uploads, etc., were used to measure a creator's consistency and audience engagement.
We observed that issues such as unstable income, dependency on brand deals, sponsorships, and inability to experiment or expand teams, could be solved with funding.
These observations guided our product development to address real user and creator problems.
10
RESULTS
I presented the app to the creators and specialists who participated in the initial research process. Their reactions were extremely positive. They were really excited about it.
Since this is a personal project, the app isn't currently live. However, I'm considering ways to change that and bring it to life.
Captivatingly, after finishing this project, I found a new competitor called vouch.app. They're still in the "get early access" phase but their product is very similar to what I built.
This discovery further validates the existence and importance of the problem I am trying to solve with this app.
